Forensic Psychologists

As a Forensic Psychologist in our DBHDD hospital setting, you will work in collaboration with our Recovery Team of doctors, nurses, social workers, and therapists in an acute inpatient setting, serving adults with severe mental illness, pending criminal charges, trauma histories, impulse control issues, substance use disorders, and interpersonal challenges. The service you will provide will be challenging, meaningful, and rewarding as you will be responsible for the completion of criminal forensic evaluations. As a Forensic Psychologist you will:

  • Conduct court-ordered pretrial forensic psychological evaluations to answer questions of competency to stand trial, violence risk, and/or criminal responsibility as a neutral friend of the court.
  • Complete assessments on individuals admitted to a State Forensic Psychiatric Unit.
  • Conduct forensic risk assessments and other psychological testing.
  • Conduct groups and psycho-educational interventions.
  • Document treatment progress.
  • Prepare patient progress reports for the court.
  • Provide expert testimony at the request of the court.
  • Provide clinical supervision of mental health counselors.

  • Minimum Qualifications

    Candidates for the Forensic Psychologist position must possess:

    • A Doctorate degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited college or university
    • Current Georgia license to practice psychology
    • License may be temporary, provisional, or permanent.
    • “License eligible” if able to obtain within a reasonable time (i.e. relocation from another state)
    • One year of experience at or equivalent to that of a lower-level Psychologist 1
  • Preferred Qualifications

    Preferred candidates for the Forensic Psychologist position will present:

    • One year of experience working as an inpatient psychologist.
    • Completion of a predoctoral internship or postdoctoral fellowship, or both with a focus on the practice of criminal forensic psychology.
    • Five years of post-licensure experience conducting competency to stand trial and criminal responsibility evaluations.
    • Experience testifying in criminal forensic mental health matters on at least 10 occasions.
    • Experience completing at least five violence risk assessments using the HCR-20 and PCL-R.
    • Experience supervising psychology graduate students, predoctoral interns, postdoctoral fellows, or licensed psychologists.

Health Aides

In this role, you will work in collaboration and support of our doctors and nurses in an acute inpatient setting, serving adults with severe mental illness, trauma histories, impulse control issues, and interpersonal challenges.  If you enjoy helping, caring, and interacting with people in a thriving, person-centered, medical, and mental health environment, you are a strong candidate for the role of health aide.  Your primary responsibility will be to support the recovery of the people we serve by:

  • Providing basic patient care and work with patients to develop daily living, self-care, and socialization skills.
  • Assisting nursing staff in administration of medications and preparing clients for treatment and/or examinations.
  • Providing support services to physically and/or developmentally disabled clients such as help walking, exercising, and moving in and out of bed.
  • Observing and documenting patient data, behavior, and activity.
  • Transporting and/or accompanying clients to treatment units, using a wheelchair or stretcher.
  • Minimum Qualifications

Nurses

In this role, you will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary treatment teams in an acute inpatient setting, serving adults with severe mental illness, trauma histories, impulse control issues, and interpersonal challenges.Your primary responsibility will be to support the recovery of the people we serve by:

  • Assessing client health problems and needs, providing health care and first aid as necessary.
  • Reviewing and determining the immediate needs of patients – i.e., current medications and treatments.
  • Administering prescribed medications and documenting times and amounts in the client’s charts.
  • Monitoring all aspects of client care, including diet and treatment, and reporting symptoms and changes in the client’s conditions.
  • Maintaining accurate, detailed client records and reports.
  • Preparing clients for and assisting with examinations and treatments.
  • Evaluate and notify doctor/Psychiatrist for review and implementation of obtaining orders.
  • Prepares rooms, sterilizes instruments, equipment, and supplies, and ensures the maintenance and stock of supplies.
  • Administer nursing care and education to patients as needed or required.
  • May advise clients on health maintenance and disease prevention and refer to Social Service within the Admission are as needed.

  • Minimum Qualifications

Psychologists

As a Psychologist in our DBHDD hospital system, you will work in collaboration with a team of medical doctors, nurses, social workers, and therapists in an acute inpatient setting, serving adults with severe mental illness, trauma histories, impulse control issues, substance use disorders, and interpersonal challenges. The needs of our clients are challenging; however, your service will be meaningful and rewarding as you will:

  • Diagnose or evaluate behavioral, emotional and cognitive disorders through observation, interview and psychological tests.
  • Apply theory relating to behavior and mental processes to formulate and administer programs of treatment that may include counseling, therapy and research.
  • Help clients work toward the maintenance and enhancement of physical, intellectual, emotional social and interpersonal functioning.
  • Develop and implements individual treatment plans, specifying type, frequency, intensity, and duration of therapy.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling or treatments, and the accuracy and completeness of diagnoses, then modify plans and diagnoses as necessary.
  • May supervise and plan the workload of staff.
  • Obtain and study medical, psychological, social, and family histories, by interviewing individuals, couples, or families, and by reviewing records.
  • Provide occupational, educational, and other information to individuals so they can make educational and vocational plans.

If you desire an opportunity to apply your knowledge and expertise within a thriving, person-centered mental health environment, you are a strong candidate for this role.  As a Social Worker in our DBHDD hospital setting, you will work in collaboration with our team of doctors, nurses, therapists, and health aides in an acute inpatient setting, serving adults with severe mental illness, trauma histories, impulse control issues, and interpersonal challenges.  The service you will provide will be challenging, meaningful, and rewarding as you will:

  • Provide patients and their families with the psychosocial support needed to cope with chronic, acute or terminal illnesses and physical or developmental disabilities.
  • Provide patient education and counseling, advises caregivers and makes necessary referrals for other social services.
  • Act as client advocate to coordinate required services or to resolve crisis.
  • Counsel clients in individual and group sessions to help them overcome dependencies, recover from illness, and adjust to life.
  • Identify environmental impediments to progress through interviews and review of patient records.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and record client progress according to measurable goals described in treatment and care plan.
  • Organize support groups or counsel family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, and supporting the client.
  • Perform clinical assessments of the behavioral health needs of consumers presenting for services.
  • Provide case management services related to identified treatment needs.
  • Provide training to direct care staff in implementing behavior modification techniques and treatment plans.
  • Refer client or family to community resources to assist in recovery from mental or physical illness and to provide access to services such as financial assistance, legal aid, housing, job placement or education

    • NonLicensed 1 or an equivalent position
